Whether you believe in feng shui or not, there are a lot of details about it that could help free up your space and maybe even declutter your place. Feng shui is all about making sure that there is an abundance of good, positive energy around you, and ensuring that there's enough room for it to flow, so the energy must be balanced at all times.
Another thing you have to consider is the presence of both yin and yang energy in your home. Yin and yang, as you probably already know, represents two types of energy. Yin refers more to darkness, calmness, and quiet, while yang suggests brightness and vigor. Too much yin can make a home feel much too languid, while a lot of yang could fail to make your home relaxing.

Signs That You Need to Amp Up Your Home's Atmosphere

Here are some easy tips that could get yang energy flowing freely in your home.
Punch up the colors. Blazing colors like red, yellow, and orange indicate life and cheerfulness, so make sure to do up your quieter rooms in these colors. You don't have to replace your curtains or your couch with something red, or paint your walls orange and yellow. All it takes is for you to add some accessories in these rich, warm colors. Think of a striking orange vase on your coffee table, or gold-trimmed throw pillows on the couch, or a burgundy rug and framed artwork featuring yellow, gold, orange, red, and brown hues on the wall.
Break the silence with music. A too-quiet home will definitely benefit from some energetic, poppy music. You don't need to play it at full blast; even having some sounds in the background will do.
Make use of plants. Not only will this give you some fresh oxygen in the house, but plants represent life, growth, and energy, so having these in your home will increase the yang atmosphere. You might also want to consider having red, orange, and yellow flowers every once in a while; daisies, zinnias, marigolds, and daffodils all have a very vibrant look.
Get a dog. No pressure, only if you can afford to and are able to take care of one. A dog, as we all know, is a very friendly and cheerful animal, and will really bring life into your surroundings. At the very least, you'll have a wonderful companion around, too!
Let the sunshine in. Does your living room, den, or family room use a lot of dark, heavy drapes? Scrap them altogether and trade them in for sheerer curtain that can easily let light filter through, or choose ones that boast lively colors and designs.
Add dynamic shapes in the form of sculptures or artwork. Shapes that pop out, whimsical patterns, and flowing figures all create the impression of movement.
Let there be light. At night, turn on all your lights and look at your house's interior. Are there any dark sections or corners? If that's the case, then be sure to add some lighting fixtures in the area, or choose ones that cast wider illumination throughout the entire room.
Keep Your Bedroom Yin
With all the tips on boosting your home's yang energy, now we have a quick section on keeping your bedroom yin. Let's do a bit of circular reasoning here: because it's your bedroom, and, ideally, your bedroom is there for you to sleep in, relax in, and basically get yourself together again after a long, hard day of working.
Unfortunately, a lot of people make their bedrooms do double-duty most of the time. They use it as a place where they do their work, where they watch TV, or even where they exercise. Doing all these activities in your bedroom negates the yin energy and gives it a little too much activity--which is not something you want in your bedroom.
Yin energy is responsible for calming us down and creating a more relaxing atmosphere, and this is what you should look for in your bedroom. To help it along, clear your floor of any clutter, and draw the shades and curtains when you go to bed; you can always throw them back in the morning to let the sunshine in. Take your TV out of your bedroom; the bed is not the place to be watching TV, and you're distracting yourself from sleep that way. Same goes for your computer.
Improving the yin energy in your bedroom will not only help you create a more relaxing space, but also help you rediscover what the bedroom is truly for: sleep and quiet time.
